Put me on my Bike (1971)

first performance: September 17-1973, Tivoli, Utrecht
Bart Duyf – baritone
Baldrick Deerenberg – alto recorder
Choir of the Nederlandse Bachvereniging
conductor: Charles de Wolff

Before the English cyclist Tom Simpson died on the Mont Ventoux during the 1967 Tour de France,
he is supposed to have said: ‘Put me on my bike’. All possible sounds that this line is offering,
are used. Besides ‘normal’ singing, there are techniques like hissing, whispering, whistling, tongue clacking etc. The alto recorder and the baritone join together the various choir passages.
