Blue Mosque

Blue Mosque (1974)

first performance: 1974, Amsterdam
Baldrick Deerenberg – bass recorder

One big, slow wave from low to high and back again. At the same time a focusing of attention on details, inspired by the art of decoration in the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. Hence the title. Sometimes the recorder player has to use the voice. Octave transpositions are allowed. There is also a version with percussion, called Wave.
The compositions Blue Mosque, Blue Monk, Little blue Monkey, Monk’s Blues en Wave form a group. The ‘mother composition’ is Blue Mosque. The other pieces are more or less adaptations of the original.
